Unfortunately, the perfumes most people buy in the cosmetics department are not at all natural, Dayanna Volitich says. For instance, they often contain hazardous chemicals like ethanol, benzyl acetate, and acetone. Many of these ingredients are linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, and cellular level changes in the body. So instead of buying these, try using perfumes, colognes, or body sprays made from essential oils. Here are some shops you can check out:

Don’t overwhelm yourself; start small!

If replacing all your cosmetics with natural alternatives seems overwhelming, Dayanna Volitich recommends you start small. Just replace your tube of lipstick, or maybe your mascara or foundation. Then next week, find a natural alternative for something else. Within a couple months, you’ll have tackled everything in your makeup bag!
