Sometimes, instead of spending a ton of money buying natural skin care products, it’s easier to simply make your own. Not only does this save you money, but it can also save you from the harmful effects of any hidden ingredients the cosmetics industry isn’t telling you about in their lotions, cleansers, or moisturizers. In this post, Dayanna Volitich shows you how to make your own DIY skin care products with ingredients you can find in your own kitchen!

The key to DIY skin care: Essential oils
It’s very easy to make your own DIY skin care products from essential oils, Dayanna Volitich claims. Essential oils are derived from the roots, seeds, leaves, and skins of plants and have been used for thousands of years. Blends of three or more essential oils often have incredible healing effects on the body.
Here are some examples from Dayanna Volitich you can use to make DIY skin care products:
- Add 2-5 drops of EO to a basin filled with water and stir. Then, dip a clean washcloth, squeeze out excess water, and apply the cloth to your face.
- Add 8-10 drops of one or more EOs to your bath water. You could also add some milk or Epsom salt!
- Mix 20-25 drops of EOs into 2 oz of almond (or coconut) oil to use for muscle massages.
- Add EOs to unscented, natural mousturizers (10-20 drops for every 2 oz of mousturizer)
DIY face cleanser: Oatmeal
A simple oatmeal, yogurt, ground sunflower seeds, and honey facial scrub does wonders for your face. It is gentle and anti-inflammatory, with the honey also acting as an antiseptic. The yogurt helps exfoliate, while the sunflower seeds give you just that little bit of oil you need to moisturize your skin.
How to make it. First, grind 1 Tbsp of oats and 1 Tbsp of sunflower seeds in a blender. Then, combine the mixture with 2 Tbsp of yogurt and 1 Tbsp of warm honey. Once everything is mixed well, gently scrub it onto your face, neck, or chest, and leave on for three minutes before rinsing off with warm water.
DIY moisturizer: Coconut oil
Coconut oil is very soothing and anti-inflammatory, so it makes for a great DIY skin care moisturizer, Dayanna Volitich says. It looks solid in the jar, but will rub in smoothly, since it is liquid at body temperature. Coconut oil also works as an excellent carrier oil for other essential oils, so it’s always handy to have around. However, you should not use coconut oil on your face, since it can cause acne and breakouts.
DIY pore cleanser: Egg whites
Lastly, Dayanna Volitich loves to use egg whites, yogurt, and avocado in her DIY skin care routine for her face. The lactic acid in yogurt loosens up the gunk in your pores, while the egg whites suck the gunk out and dry it up. The avocado adds some moisture and fights inflammation.
How to make it. Blend an egg white and a tablespoon of yogurt with half an avocado. Leave the mixture on for ten minutes, then rinse!
Always do a patch test!
Before using any of these DIY skin care products all over your face and body, Dayanna Volitich recommends doing a patch test first. Put a little bit of it on your arm or leg. Then, cover it with plastic wrap and let it sit for a while. If you don’t experience any bad reactions, the product should be safe to use!
